I know a lot of people just ignore the annoying phone rings until they hear a familiar voice in the voice machine then they run to pick the phone up. All this is because the ton of advertising calls that they receive every day. The main point is that the advertising agents and businesses will still make such calls even if most of the people wont respond to them or even if they got bothered by these calls. As Shel Israel mentioned in “Naked Conversations” that these companies do not care if 98% of the people hate their call. They just care about the 2% who respond to them.
I totally agree with Israel. This kind of advertising annoying and does not work very well. One thing jumped into my mind while I was reading in the book about this point. The book mentioned that people pay money by trying to prevent such calls. This means that other parties are also benefits from such call. People buy expensive phones that recognize these calls. People also subscribe to show ID service from the telephone company mostly to avoid answering these calls. Also the fact that these companies are paying a lot of money to the telephone company so they can make the call. Also there are some companies that sell telephone numbers to advertising agencies.
Unfortunately too many parties are benefits from these calls so that I think there would be no reason for these company to stop these calls.

Hi Majid-
I think you are bringing up an interesting point about marketers calling extensively and offering products. I am sure we have all experienced this in one way or another and to a point it can be very annoying. However, you mentioned people about getting devices to screen out calls or unlist themselves out of the Yellow Pages. I think that there should be rules and regulations in terms of constantly calling and offering products. In one way, it is invading privacy and the other way people should not have to buy all these devices to make them go away.
Benjamin
I know that you can call the police after some number of calls but I do not think this applies for business calls cause they do not call you a lot in the same day.
I fully agree with you it is very annoying and invade our privacy but it seems that solutions are not convenient especially the phone companies do not help.
